RANT: Advertisements

There’s nary a time when a commercial comes on that I don’t cringe and clench my fists with rage. Be it on the radio, television, or that annoying reel before the previews of unreleased movies I simply loathe ads to the very core of me. Oddly enough, most internet ads don’t bother me, unless there’s more than say two per screen of a website, or there’s some annoying sound announcing that I, like thousands of others, have one a FREE* IPOD!
There’s something so sneaky, so slippery about the very nature of ads. It’s someone saying here’s something you don’t need at the moment, but we think you should get it because ___. The particularly nasty ones prey on your fears and insecurities to establish a need. Your house isn’t safe without a full electronic night-vision-equipped double-lock-down with a panic room security system. You aren’t pretty without these bits of paper that take blackheads off your nose. Your dick isn’t big enough, your vaj isn’t tight enough, and until you buy our crap everyone will laugh at you behind your back.
No wonder people are so fucked up!
How can you really feel satisfied with what you have if every 5 minutes something newer and shinier assaults your senses and makes you think “FUCK…. the Johnsons must have one of those! I can’t be beaten by those pickle-smelling pussnuts!” So what are we left with? A never-ending race to get to the best stuff, with the best stuff always being juuust out of your reach and completely obsolete within 2 years. How fucked up is THAT? There is no way to win, and it doesn’t seem like a possibility to find satisfaction without joining the rat race.
My best idea is to bitch about it apparently. So wah.

Products are slowly dropping out of my life. I’ve really never had much to begin with so that makes it a whole lot easier to keep them out. Saving money has been what I’ve been up to since high school graduation in 07. This past year I have been just working and saving up money. Spending as little as I can.
Advertisements on the internet such as the big ones that just invade your web page and really just fly over it really bother me! I’ve been seeing more of those lately. Keeping up with products can be a flipping nightmare!! I just recently got an Mp3 player a Samsung and a month later a new one came out!! I’m not even going to try and get an ipod because I’m sure something new is coming! “No wonder people are so fucked up!” The funny thing about that is people don’t even know how fucked up in the head they really are! We have the media telling us what to think. Just this past week I was watching the news and a top story wasn’t about obama and the minister no it was how some guy made the cover of some girl magazine!!! I can’t believe it!!!!
“There is no way to win” the best thing I can say is finding that right person in life is about the only thing in life that really matters second to laughter.

What pisses me off most about advertising is when they direct it at children. Ads around Christmas are almost exclusively for toys at ANY time they think a child might be watching, creating “pester power”.

gah i’m tired of the “wanna size your penis” ads for ONCE can they send me “want some boobs enhancers”…. hmm.. wait… just checked my email, nevermind wish granted :P

It’s necessary. Money needs to be constantly spent in order to maintain a capitalism. I mean, if we all suddenly became communist (*fingers crossed*) we could shift all this useless R&D to something more productive. But until then, it’s all about the simolians. (Spelling on that?)

We occasionally get American adverts broadcasted over in the UK (though not often) and to be honest, I dont get how you can fuckin stand them all day! If thats the norm then they are so damn patronising.
The way UK adverts work is through humour (I’m not sure how much this is used over there), which is good cos even if you dont want to buy the product, you can still laugh.
