“Distracted” Wallpaper

by boh3m3 on Jan.05, 2009, under Art Bits

So here, in all it’s wiggly 1.1mb glory is my first photomanipulation wallpaper. I made it for myself, because I loathe the “standard” format of icons on the left, blank space on the right.

I made this to remind me of the intense beauty and variety of the world, as well as the concept of time. No drugs, no alcohol, lotsa bullshit.

Very nice! The whole acid colours thing doesn’t really work for me, and it’s a little busy, and - why no icons on the left, is it really that evil? Anyways, it’s for you so I’ll stop criticising ;)

Hope you got my email, and I hope the damn comments work this time.

  2. Thiefree

ALSO when are we getting a new poll? I like to click things!

:p Anna… do you really realize what you’re saying? You’re talking about a wallpaper called “Distracted”, which illustrates being distracted, and getting distracted by the fact that there’s “OMGZ NO ICON SPACE ON TEH LEFT?!” and that it’s a little “busy”?

    Appropriate, but damn!

… You’re only picking on me because I have radically superior boobs.

I am SO damn bored that my eyeballs are leaking black stuff. This CAN’T be good. Last time this happened… well… all I can remember is the screams. The terrible, terrible screams.

AND ALSO you suck. Love you!

I am a person who likes crazy and eccentric things by nature. Why do you think I’ve hung out here this long? lol. Anyway, I like it. It could work for one of those crazy days when you need something else to focus on besides the downward spiral of your life.

Where is that link to download????

    Perdy nifty Ben!

I wish I had superior boobs :( sigh

  7. Nick Nelson

Awesome Ben!! Very artistically put together. I set it as my wallpaper lol.

For a guy who was once obsessed with Black & White (or Grayscale); you sure can utilize colours in a very dramatic manner.

    Great work, Ben!

I have now added it to my collection of 2341 wallpapers.

In the 1700 many scholars kept skulls on their desks to remind them of the brevity of human existence. Is the death component of this wall paper attempting to achieve the same message (message is the wrong word; curse my lack of wordy knowledge)?

  11. boh3m3

A skull does not mean death. People attached meaning to it for their own reasons.

A skull is simply what lies beneath, and what links every person on this planet by common denominator. It is the facade of the world stripped to it’s core, and the clarity of form is evident and strong.

Some people see it as death. Then again, some people like to eat deer testicles too.

  12. Thiefree

It’s true, skulls have become synonymous with death. Challenging that preconception would take a real statement, I think.

  13. devonbasedman

Changing that pre conception would involve finding a way to get your skull outside your head while you were still alive. That would impress me.

  14. boh3m3

Changing that preconception would involve people waking up and feeling things instead of looking to the outside world for ready-made just-add-slight-brain-function fix-all pills, symbols and public leaders.

  15. devonbasedman

    mmmm. tasty fix-all pills.

  16. Devo

Pills work for a limited time, but the ability to use the mind against itself is considered an achievement towards enlightenment or something like that. I always figured it’s what the brain was made for; the skull is the ultimate treasure chest, but I suppose that could be up for debate.

  17. Thiefree

Waking up and feeling things’ won’t change what a skull represents, Ben.

Ok, well if you want us to look beyond the immediate knee-jerk response to your symbolism…

The man by the phone, representing your working self, is merely a cut-out. A stencil. A stereotype of a human, no depth or texture, and no individuality - unless you read the spirals behind him as a fingerprint, perhaps.

The horn with the duck in, and the words beneath him, show that your sense of self comes primarily through what you say. Your words have become your identity.

The skull with the clock nose, I’m sorry, does represent mortality, although whether that means death or life or just transience is down to the individual.

The engine, for me, is the most fascinating part. Does it mean that your imagination is your drive? Or is mortality itself the thing that powers you?

The eggshell with the warning sign… is a little ambiguous, I’ll admit. Fear of childbirth, perhaps. The skull and egg are clearly in symbiosis, after all, indicating that one cannot function without the other.

The handprints on the movie reels on your imagination side - your ‘left brain’ - clearly represent your videos. They are the outlet of your creativity. However your creative side is wild and unstructured, and must be called into check by your sensible side, or it would engulf you altogether.

There. No fix-all pills, just a serious critical analysis of your work. Now is when you tell me that I take you too seriously.

  23. Devo
